There are both physical and emotional health benefits that come with having a pet in your life. You may have experienced those benefits when you were feeling stressed or down and cuddling with a furry little friend made you feel better.
Here are some reasons why pets can be good for your emotional health!
If you are conscious of keeping your pet healthy, then you know how important it is for them to get daily exercise. When they go out, so do you! Being out in the sun and breathing in fresh air can only do you both some good; It improves your mood and helps your body synthesize vitamin D. Vitamin D is known to counteract the negative effects of cancer, depression, obesity, and heart attacks.
When you get sick, you spend much more time lying in bed. Not being able to go out, go to work, meet other people, and talk to them can actually have a negative effect on your life. You are at increased risk for depression, and anxiety and other problems.
When you pet your cat or dog, you feel much more relaxed and optimistic.
Now that you know how pets can help improve your emotional well-being, it is a good time to go have some fun with them! If you don’t yet have a feline friend to keep you company or a canine to go wild every time you come home, then get one! Volunteer at a pet shelter, if you can’t afford your own pet and enjoy their company!
