Best Grooming Practices for Your Cat

If you own a cat, then you must be aware of how much they like to be treated like royalty. The internet doesn’t even exaggerate! Cat grooming is more than just about pampering them but about making sure they remain clean and comfortable. Eventually, it’s good for their health.

If you are struggling with cat grooming then you need to follow the tips that I did. Of course it’s not the same for every cat breed, but these are some of the best basics I’ve come across that have really helped me.

  • Brushing: Brushing cat hair is the most important part of cat grooming. It’s not only to keep the fur clear from dead hair, but it also keeps it from matting. You should be extra careful in the case of long haired cats. There’s a technique to brushing your cat’s hair, just make sure you go in one direction and use soft strokes.
  • Claw trimming: Just remember to trim the claws every now and then using special clippers.
  • Baths: Some cats hate water so you need to start gently to avoid scaring them. Start with wet sponges until they’re settled with that, and then gently pour water on them. Be careful because some cats will start clawing to get away, I know my cat did!

Don’t worry, once the process is done, your cat will be grateful. Keep in mind that if the fur starts to mat, you can always trim it off instead of brushing it out. No need for your cat to go through unnecessary pain.

I have a 15 year old cat who is suffering with pain issues and does not see as well now because he has cataracts. He is such a gentile, loving boy-cat and is obviously suffering with arthritis. I have had him in pain management for about a year. He is prescribed buprenorphine liquid twice a day 12 hours apart. It has made such a difference! I just wish there was another more natural way to keep him pain free
